Part 1
Setting:
You decided to prepare a nice dinner for your family. Your recipe should include one of each of
the following categories:
1. Chicken, Beef or Fish
2. Vegetables – rice, broccoli, carrots, potatoes, or any other vegetable of your choice..
After you chose a recipe, look up the prices (per pound) of the two main ingredients you will
use for a family of 4. The combination of the two main ingredients in pounds should be 5 lbs.
or more.
Tasks:
1. Find a recipe you would like to cook for your family, that includes the two main
ingredients you chose from above. Include the recipe in your project.
2. Find the price per pound (cost) of the two main ingredients from the supermarket of
your choice and present it in your project. Include the screenshot or website with the
information.
3. Describe what your plans are for the dinner party and how you will accomplish your goal
of preparing the meal. One or two sentences will be enough. (How you will organize
yourself to complete your cooking and how will you present the table.)
4. Think about how to put together the inequalities. You will have $30.00 available to buy
your main ingredients. Assume that all other ingredients are in your kitchen.
5. Work on your solution stating the following:
a. Choose your variables (Tip: How many variables do you need?)
b. Define each of the variables.
c. State your inequalities
d. Put together a graph with all its parts (title, axes scale and labels, lines-solid or
dashed, shades) Make sure that the shades intersection area well identified.
e. Write up your conclusion – explain what is the interpretation of the solution. What is
the meaning of each shaded area and what is the interpretation of the intercepted
shaded area?

Setting:
As you were picking up your ingredients at the supermarket, you found out that they had two
job positions open that are of your interest since you are looking to save money for a car. The
first position is of a cashier and it pays a flat rate of $30.00 per week plus $5.00 per hour. The
other available position is for a bagger. This one pays a flat rate of $15.00 per week plus $8.00
per hour. How many hours do you need to work to earn the same amount on either of the job
positions.
Tasks:
1. Choose your variables (Tip: How many variables do you need?)
2. State your equations and solve them using either the elimination or substitution
method.
3. State the solution of the system.
4. Put together a graph to confirm your findings (check). The graph should include: axes
scale, labels, lines (identify each line of the graph).
5. If you want to earn $300 during the month of June, in which of the two jobs will you
work less hours?
6. Write up your conclusion – make sure you can explain what is the interpretation of the
solution. State if there is one solution, no solution or infinite solutions. What is the meaning
of your findings?
You may present your project in a poster board, you can use digital means like Excel, Word,
or PDF. You may also scan your documents. No matter the way you choose to present your
project, it needs to be submitted through Canvas.
