My Initial Discussion Post:
During my internship, the CEO of the organization decided to implement a company-wide restructuring plan. This plan involved a shift in the organization structure and changes to various departments without proper communication or training. The CEO failed to engage in consultation with key stakeholders in the organization. The communication of this decision was conveyed through an email to the staff. This decision had a significant impact on my daily responsibilities and duties as an intern since I encountered challenges in adapting to the changes and getting clear instructions. The lack of effective communication regarding the decision also resulted to feelings of frustration and a sense of lacking support.
The experience had a negative impact on my perception of the organization, as it highlighted poor communication skills and decision making from the leadership. Johansson (2018) asserts that leadership encompasses the ability to effectively communicate with all stakeholders in an organization. I perceived the decision by the CEO as a sign of disconnect between leadership and the employees since it was not well-explained. The situation created a sense of confusion and conflicts within the organization, as it seemed the leadership did not consider the practical implications or provide the necessary resources for a smooth transition. As a result, poor communication resulted to reduced productivity and low job satisfaction. This experience made me realize that effective communication is crucial since it leads to improved productivity and employee satisfaction.
